Restaurant Oustau de Altea

Oustau is a long-running favourite on Carrer Major in Altea's old town, and it's a fun pick for dinner after a wander through the whitewashed lanes. The cooking is French-inspired with a creative streak, and the dishes are named after films and actors, so you might order the 'Scarlett Johansson' tuna tartare, the 'Golden Eye' beef sirloin or the Tom Hardy duck magret. The setting is a big part of it: a pretty terrace and leafy garden tucked into the old town. Michelin's note mentions the tables are a bit tightly packed, and the cocktails are built on French classics. Expect to spend around 30 to 45 euros a head. It's mainly a dinner spot. From June to October it opens every evening, while out of season it closes Monday and Tuesday and adds weekend lunches. Book ahead.
