A whitewashed hilltop old town, ten minutes and a world away from Benidorm.
Altea is the one people fall for. The old town climbs a hill to the blue-domed church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, with white houses, steep lanes and views down to the sea. It has long had an arty crowd, and you'll find galleries and craft shops tucked into the streets.
Down at sea level there's a pebble beach, a promenade with restaurants and a marina. Altea is close enough to Benidorm and Albir to combine in a day, and the TRAM makes it an easy trip from Alicante.
