Benidorm in March: Weather, Easter 2027 & Is It Worth It

Spring arrives, the clocks change and Easter lands early in 2027. Warm days, a cold sea and a busy last week.

March is when Benidorm starts to feel like spring. Highs average nearly 20°C, you get about 7 hours of sun a day, and the evenings get long once the clocks go forward on 28 March 2027. Easter falls early in 2027, so Semana Santa runs from 21 to 28 March and the last week of the month gets busy. The sea, though, is still cold.

Quick facts

  • Average high / low: 19.6°C / 8.9°C
  • Sea temperature: about 14.5°C on average, still near its coldest
  • Rain: about 23 mm over roughly 3 days with 1 mm or more
  • Sunshine: about 227 hours, over 7 hours a day
  • Daylight: about 07:31 to 18:54 on 1 March; after the clocks change, 07:45 to 20:23 by the 31st
  • Semana Santa 2027: Holy Week runs 21 to 28 March, but the Benidorm procession programme (routes and times) is TBD. Expect a similar pattern to 2026
  • Crowds: quiet until Easter week, then busy
  • Prices: low early in the month, rising for Easter

Where the numbers come from: air temperatures, rain and sunshine are AEMET's 1981-2010 climate normals for its Alicante city station, the nearest long-running official record, about 40 km down the coast. Benidorm won't match it to the decimal point, but it's close enough to plan with, and I use the same station for every month so you can compare. Sea temperatures are 10-year averages from seatemperature.info, and sunrise and sunset times are from sunrise-sunset.org.

Is Benidorm warm in March?

On a sunny day, yes. An average high of 19.6°C means T-shirts at lunch and a proper sunbathe if you find a spot out of the breeze. March is noticeably sunnier than winter, with about 227 hours of sun across the month against 180 in February.

Evenings are still cool, with an average low just under 9°C. The big change is the light. Spain's clocks go forward on Sunday 28 March 2027, and by the 31st the sun doesn't set until about 20:23. Suddenly an evening drink outside after dinner is back on.

Can you swim in the sea in March?

Not comfortably. The sea averages about 14.5°C in March, barely up from February, because the water warms much more slowly than the air. You'll see the odd all-year swimmer, and kids paddling, but for proper swimming you want a heated pool. The sea doesn't really get pleasant until late May or June.

What to wear and pack

  • T-shirts and shorts for sunny days
  • A jumper and a light jacket for evenings
  • Long trousers for nights out
  • Sun cream: 7 hours of sun a day is enough to burn, especially on the beach
  • Something respectful if you plan to watch the Easter processions up close
  • Walking shoes for the old town hill and day trips

Early in the month, our winter packing guide still applies.

Is Benidorm open in March? What's closed

Benidorm never really shuts, and by March the beach bars and terraces start coming back to life. Hotels on Levante and in the old town are open, and the long-stay winter visitors are still around until Easter.

The parks are mixed:

  • Terra Mítica: probably still closed. In 2026 it didn't open until 15 May. Check the park's website for 2027.
  • Aqualandia: closed, it's summer only. In 2026 it opened on 23 May.
  • Mundomar: its calendar showed the main 2026 season starting on 28 March, around Easter. The 2027 date wasn't up at the time of writing.
  • Terra Natura: ticket sellers list weekends and holidays through March. In 2026 its water park, Aqua Natura, opened daily from 27 March.

What's on in March 2027

Semana Santa, 21 to 28 March

Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027, so Holy Week starts on Palm Sunday, 21 March. Good Friday, 26 March, is a public holiday. Benidorm's processions are smaller than the famous ones in Andalucía, but they're well attended and worth seeing. The 2027 programme is TBD. Going by the 2026 programme, expect roughly:

  • Palm Sunday: the first celebrations of the week, with a big turnout in 2026
  • Holy Monday: the procession of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza and Jesús de la Salud y la Humildad
  • Holy Wednesday: Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno through the town centre
  • Holy Thursday: a quieter, more solemn procession
  • Good Friday night: the Santo Entierro, the biggest of the week
  • Easter Sunday: the Ambaixà and the Procession of the Encounter

Exact days, routes and times are TBD and published by the council nearer the date, so check benidorm.org. In 2026 the TRAM (2027 Holy Week timetable TBD) extended its last trains from Benidorm all the way to Luceros in Alicante during Holy Week, which is handy if you're staying in Alicante.

Fallas in Valencia, 15 to 19 March

Valencia's Fallas run from 15 to 19 March every year, with a mascletà at 14:00 every day from 1 March and the giant figures burned on the night of the 19th. It's a long day trip from Benidorm and the city is packed, but if you've never seen it, it's something else.

The last of the almond blossom

Most almond blossom has gone by March, but the Guadalest valley tends to flower later than the coast-side valleys, so early March can still catch some. See our February guide for where to go.

Best things to do in March

  • Walk the full seafront from Levante round to Poniente, with a stop at the Balcón del Mediterráneo in the old town.
  • Climb the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe before it gets hot. Take the TRAM Line 9 up the coast and read our Peñón de Ifach guide first.
  • Spend an afternoon in Altea, then dinner at La Capella in the old town.
  • Grab a sundowner at La Terrasse once the clocks change.
  • Do tapas in the old town at La Cava Aragonesa on Plaza de la Constitució.

Is it busy? Prices

March splits in two. Until about the 20th, Benidorm is calm, cheap and full of long-stay winter visitors finishing their season. Easter week is a different story: Spanish families and UK visitors arrive together, hotel prices jump and restaurants on the seafront fill up. If you're coming for Semana Santa, book early.

The ALSA bus from Alicante airport was €7.99 one way at the time of writing (October 2026), and TRAM Line 1 runs from Luceros in Alicante up to Benidorm. More on the town on our Benidorm area page.
