Alicante Centro
The capital of the Costa Blanca, with a beach in the middle of town.
Alicante is a proper Spanish city that happens to have a beach right in the centre. Postiguet beach sits at the bottom of the old town, the palm-lined Explanada runs along the marina, and Santa Bárbara castle looks down on all of it from Mount Benacantil.
Most of the eating and drinking happens in and around El Barrio, the old quarter, and the streets off the Rambla and the Mercado Central. The airport is about 20 minutes away, and the TRAM runs north along the coast to Playa de San Juan, El Campello and Benidorm. In June the whole city goes out for the Hogueras de San Juan, the biggest fiesta of the year.
