Things to Do in Benidorm When It Rains: 12 Indoor Ideas
Twelve indoor plans for a wet day in Benidorm, from Benidorm Palace and bowling to chocolate in Villajoyosa.
Rain in Benidorm doesn't happen often, but when it does, the whole town heads indoors at once. The best rainy-day plans are a night at Benidorm Palace, bowling on Avenida del Mediterráneo, a film, a long tapas lunch in the old town, or a short trip out to the Valor chocolate museum in Villajoyosa, the little museums in Guadalest or the MARQ in Alicante. Here are 12 that are open and worth your time.
Quick facts
- How often it rains: AEMET's averages for the nearby Alicante airport station show about 3-4 days a month with 1mm or more from November to March.
- Wettest time: September and October get the most rain and storms of the year (about 40-46mm a month).
- Best evening plan: Benidorm Palace, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
- Best day trip: the Valor chocolate museum in Villajoyosa (weekdays) or the MARQ in Alicante (closed Mondays).
- Sunday tip: Valor is shut on Sundays, so go for bowling, the cinema or the MARQ (Sunday mornings).
In Benidorm
1. A show at Benidorm Palace
Where: Avenida Dr Severo Ochoa 13.
The obvious one, and it's good fun. The regular shows run on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 20:00, dinner is at 20:30 (you must be there by 21:15 to eat), and the show starts at 22:00, or 22:15 on Saturdays. Prices on the official site start at €40 for show only and €50 for a table with a tapa and a glass of wine, up to €60-110 for the dinner packages. Over the winter there are tribute and themed nights too, including Michael Starring Ben (15 November), The Overtones Christmas show (6 December), Christmas with Walk Like A Man (20 December), Christmas Day, Boxing Day, a New Year's Eve gala and a Reyes gala on 5 January 2027. Book on benidormpalace.com.
2. Bowling at Ozone
Where: Avenida del Mediterráneo 22, in the Levante area.
Ten-pin bowling, arcade machines and a bar. Listings give 10 lanes and opening hours of 11:00 to 23:45, with later closing on Fridays and Saturdays. You can't book online, so ring ahead on a wet weekend, because everyone has the same idea.
3. The cinema
Where: Cines Colci, Avenida de los Almendros 35 (7 screens), and Colci Rincón, Avenida Zamora (6 screens), in Rincón de Loix.
Benidorm's town-centre cinemas. Most films in Spain are shown dubbed into Spanish, so if you want English, look for "VOSE" (original version with Spanish subtitles) on the listings and check before you go.
4. La Marina shopping centre and the IMF cinema, Finestrat
Where: Avenida del País Valencià 1-7, Finestrat, just behind Benidorm.
The big shopping centre for the area, with over a hundred shops including Zara and C&A, plus Ikea, restaurants and the Cines IMF cinema. Shops are generally open 10:00-22:00, Monday to Saturday. Sunday opening varies by season, so check before you go on a Sunday.
5. Museu Boca del Calvari
Where: Calle Tomás Ortuño, in the centre near the old town.
A small council museum about Benidorm's history, from its first settlers to the tourist growth of the second half of the 20th century. The current exhibition, "Benidorm, huella del tiempo", opened in November 2025 with pieces from prehistory to the Modern Age. Hours change with the season, so call 966 830 674 before you walk over. It's a good half hour and a nice change from the strip.
6. A long tapas lunch in the old town
Where: Plaza de la Constitució and the streets around it.
The best rainy-day plan in Benidorm is honestly just eating slowly. Duck into La Cava Aragonesa or El Rincón del Ribera, both on Plaza de la Constitució, and work through the pintxos at the bar. Expect around €2.50-5 a pintxo. Our Benidorm old town bars guide has the full crawl.
7. An afternoon in a proper pub
Where: Shamrock Irish Pub, Calle Gerona 22.
Sometimes a wet afternoon just wants a pint and a seat. The Shamrock, in the middle of the Levante bar area, is a reliable one.
8. Cocktails with a view
Where: La Terrasse, Avenida de Estocolmo 4.
Watching a storm roll over the bay with a drink in your hand is a decent way to spend an hour. Go when the rain eases off and the light comes back.
Short trips out
9. The Valor chocolate museum, Villajoyosa
Where: Avenida Pianista Gonzalo Soriano 13, Villajoyosa, the next town down the coast towards Alicante.
A 45-minute guided visit with a short film, the museum, a look over the factory and the shop at the end. Tours in English run on weekdays at 10:00, 15:00 and 16:00, and on Saturdays at 10:00. Other slots are in Spanish. It's closed on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and public holidays, and the factory calendar lists a closure from 23 to 31 December. Saturday visits are online booking only, and groups are capped at 50, so book ahead on valor.es. There's no parking at the museum. Travel guides describe the visit as free with a tasting at the end. See the Villajoyosa area guide for what else is in town.
10. The museums of Guadalest
Where: El Castell de Guadalest, inland in the mountains behind Benidorm.
Guadalest is a tiny hilltop village packed with odd little museums, which makes it perfect for a grey day. The Microminiature Museum and the Microgiant Museum next door list winter hours of 10:00-18:00 daily. The Nativity Scene Museum opens 10:00-18:00 in winter, closed Saturdays, and the Ethnological Museum opens 10:30-14:00 and 15:00-17:00, closed Saturday afternoons. Hours on these listings aren't always up to date, so check before you set off. The drive is on a mountain road, so take it easy in heavy rain.
11. The MARQ archaeological museum, Alicante
Where: Plaza Dr Gómez Ulla, Alicante. Served by TRAM lines L1, L3 and L4.
One of the best museums on the coast, and big enough to fill a whole wet morning. It's open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-19:00 and Sundays and holidays 10:00-14:00, closed Mondays. The current temporary show, "El oro y el universo", is about the indigenous knowledge of Colombia. From Benidorm, the tram to Alicante is a two-zone fare (roughly €3 after the October 2026 rise), and takes about 72 minutes. Our Alicante to Benidorm by tram guide explains the route.
12. Shopping in Alicante
Where: El Corte Inglés, Avenida de Federico Soto 1-3, and Gran Vía shopping centre, Calle José García Sellés 2.
If you're already in Alicante for the MARQ, El Corte Inglés is the classic Spanish department store, with a food hall and plenty of floors to wander. Gran Vía is a full shopping centre on the other side of the city.
What doesn't work in the rain
Mundomar, Terra Mítica and the other parks are mostly outdoors, so they're not rainy-day plans. Mundomar has said it opens year-round but not every day, so check its calendar for a dry day instead. The Christmas market and ice rink in Plaza de SS.MM. Reyes de España are outdoors too. For more on what's open in the cooler months, see Benidorm in winter or the Benidorm area guide.
