Alicante Nightlife: Best Bars, Clubs and Where to Go Out

Where to drink and dance in Alicante, from Calle Castaños to the port clubs, with real closing times and prices.

Alicante nightlife starts later than you think and runs later than you'd expect. The bars are in El Barrio and on Calle Castaños in the old centre, the big clubs are down at the port on Muelle de Levante, and Playa de San Juan has its own beachier, more local scene. Most people don't hit a bar until 11pm and the clubs only get going after 1am.

Quick facts

  • Where to drink: Calle Castaños and El Barrio (old town), the port and marina, Playa de San Juan.
  • Where to dance: the port (Marmarela), Sala Magma, plus late bars in San Juan.
  • Start times: afternoon "tardeo" drinks from mid-afternoon, bars from about 11pm, clubs from around midnight.
  • Closing times (2026 regional rules): ordinary bars and restaurants 1:30am, pubs 3:30am in a city Alicante's size (councils can stretch that to 4am), nightclubs as late as 7:30am.
  • A beer: around €3 for a half-litre on average, with a range of roughly €1.50 to €4 (Numbeo, October 2026).
  • Clubs: 18+, so bring photo ID.
  • Getting around: the centre and the port are walkable; San Juan is a tram or taxi ride.

How a night out in Alicante actually runs

Forget the UK timetable. Locals do "tardeo" first: afternoon drinks that start around the Mercado Central and spill onto the terraces of Calle Castaños from late afternoon. Then home, a shower, dinner at 9.30 or 10pm, and out again. Bars fill from 11pm. Clubs open their doors around midnight but are half empty until 1.30 or 2am. If you turn up at a club at 11.30pm you'll be dancing with the bar staff.

The legal limits are set each year by the Generalitat Valenciana. For 2026, the official order puts ordinary bars at 1:30am, pubs at 3:30am in towns over 50,000 people, and discotecas at 7:30am (DOGV, Orden 3/2025). That's why the night has a natural rhythm: bar, then pub, then club.

El Barrio and Calle Castaños (old town)

This is where most nights start. Calle Castaños is a pedestrian street just off the Rambla, lined with terraces, and it's busy from the afternoon onwards. My picks:

  • Nic Combinados y Cócteles (Castaños 22): the old reliable for proper cocktails and gin and tonics. Open from noon, until 2am in the week and 3:30am on Friday and Saturday.
  • Ten 10 (Castaños 30): cocktails and a later, louder crowd. Opens mid-afternoon and goes on to 3:30am.
  • Syrah Wine Bar (Castaños 7): the grown-up option, with wine and tapas. It winds down at midnight in the week and 1:30am at weekends, so do it first.
  • Confetti (Calle Médico Pascual Pérez 8): a long-running indie and alternative bar, open Friday and Saturday only, until 4am.

Deeper into El Barrio, the lanes up towards the castle are full of small bars. Calle Labradores (Llauradors on the signs), San Pascual and San Isidro are the classic streets. Austin on Calle Labradores is open every day from 11am to 2:30am, which makes it a handy meeting point.

One thing to know: since late 2025 the council has a noise-saturated zone (ZAS) in part of the old town, mainly around Plaza Quijano, Calle Virgen de Belén and Calle San Agustín. Venues there have to shut at 00:30 Sunday to Thursday and 1am on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays (Alicante Plaza, March 2026). It's been fought in court and the council has talked about a similar zone for Castaños, so check a bar's current hours before you plan a 3am drink there.

The port and marina

When the old town bars close, a lot of people walk down to the water. Marmarela on Muelle de Levante is the big one: club nights from midnight to 7am, 18+, with house, tech house and reggaeton depending on the night. It also hosts concerts, so check what's on before you go.

Earlier in the evening, Béton Brut is the smart choice on the same quay. It opened in May 2025 in the old Dársena building, with a restaurant, terrace and rooftop, and it's better for a drink with a view than for dancing. Noray on the marina is the low-key one, a café bar open daily until 1:30am with boats right in front of you.

You'll see the Panoramis complex at the end of the marina in older guides. It has been shifting towards offices for years, so don't plan a night around it.

Live music

Sala Stereo on Calle Pintor Velázquez, near the Mercado Central, is the best small venue in town for bands. At the time of writing (October 2026) it has Chiquita Movida on Saturday 24 October at 10.30pm (around €20 in advance on Fever) and Finde Fantasma on Friday 27 November, plus a Surfin Halloween night on 31 October. Sala Magma also mixes gigs (Hens play on 31 October) with club nights on Friday and Saturday from 11.30pm to 7am. It's on Calle Vial Flora de España, so get a taxi.

Playa de San Juan

San Juan feels different: more locals, more space, less dressing up. Most of it is on or just off Avenida de la Costa Blanca. Texaco is the institution, a big bar with a terrace a short walk from the sand and something on most nights. Frontera is a proper rock bar. BeerLand on Avenida San Sebastián is for craft beer. Máster Pub is the late one, with a dance floor and a young, mixed crowd. Our full rundown is in the best bars in Playa de San Juan.

For sunset, Boga Sky Lounge on Avenida de Cataluña is a rooftop worth the trip, and there are more in our rooftop bars guide. Out on Avenida de Villajoyosa, Puntapiedra does dinner that slides into a bar and then a club, which saves you moving. See the San Juan area guide for the rest.

Summer beach clubs

In summer the night moves towards the sea. The beach bars on Postiguet and San Juan stay busy late, and the port terraces come into their own. If you want a proper beach club, Benidorm is 40 minutes up the coast: Penelope has a beach club on Playa de Levante that it says is open all year, plus a separate nightclub out on Avenida Comunidad Valenciana (its site lists a Halloween party on 31 October 2026). For something calmer in Benidorm, try the old town bars.

LGBTQ+ friendly spots

Alicante's scene is small and relaxed. Canibal Lounge Pub on the Explanada is the long-standing gay bar and lounge, open daily from 5.30pm to 3.30am. Máster Pub in San Juan is LGBTQ-friendly too. If you want a big scene, Benidorm's old town has dozens of gay bars packed around Calle Santa Faz.

Dress code

Bars don't care. Shorts and trainers are fine on Castaños and in San Juan. For the port clubs, smarten up a bit: a decent shirt or top, proper shoes, no football kits or flip-flops. Door staff have the final say, and groups of lads get a harder look than mixed groups.

Prices

Alicante is still good value. A half-litre of draught beer averages around €3, with a range of roughly €1.50 to €4 (Numbeo, updated October 2026). Cocktails cost a lot more than that, and waterfront prices are higher than the old town. Club entry varies by night and DJ, and guest lists through apps like Clubbable can help. A gig at Sala Stereo is around €20 in advance.

Safety basics

  • Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket on busy terraces and in clubs.
  • Don't leave your phone on the table at a terrace. That's how most phones go missing.
  • Pace yourself and drink water between rounds. It is a long night.
  • Check the last tram before you head to San Juan (TRAM d'Alacant / FGV), or plan on a taxi back.
  • Remember that people live above these bars. Keep the noise down in the old town lanes on the way home.
