Frontera

Frontera is Playa de San Juan's rock bar, on Avenida de la Costa Blanca, and it's the place to go when you want live bands and a pool table rather than reggaeton. It's open every day from 4pm until the early hours. Live music is the heart of it, with gigs from live bands and jam sessions where musicians are welcome to join in. When there's no band on, there's rock on the stereo, sport on the screens and a billiard table to keep you busy. You can drink inside or out on the terrace. Reviewers keep mentioning the friendly owner and staff and a mixed crowd that gets along, and some are pleasantly surprised by the food, with big portions. It gets packed on good gig nights, so arrive earlier if you want a seat. If you're staying in San Juan and want a proper bar night with a bit of character, this is the one.
