Nights out here start late and finish later. In Alicante city, most people begin with afternoon drinks on Calle Castaños, move up into the old town lanes of El Barrio after dinner, then head down to the port for the clubs once the bars wind down. Playa de San Juan has its own more local scene of rock bars, craft beer and big terraces near the beach. Up the coast, Benidorm splits in two: pintxo bars and music pubs in the old town, and the louder, late-night strip around Levante. Further south, Torrevieja and La Mata are all about beach bars in summer.
