El Rincón del Ribera

El Rincón del Ribera is a small wine and tapas bar on Plaza de la Constitución in Benidorm's old town, and it's a cheap, cheerful stop for a glass and a nibble. Order a drink and you get to pick a tapa to go with it from a list of more than 30, so a few rounds soon turns into dinner. The wines lean Spanish: Ribera del Duero and Rioja reds, Rueda whites and Cigales rosé, plus cava, sangria and tinto de verano. The tapas are simple bar classics like gulas with prawn, anchovy with fresh cheese, black pudding with quail egg, octopus, chistorra and tortilla. Regulars rave about the low prices and the jug-of-sangria-plus-tapas deals. The terrace is small, with high tables and no table service, so you order at the bar, and it fills up fast on busy evenings. Don't expect fine cooking. Do expect friendly staff and a decent glass of red for very little money.
