Alicante Airport to City Centre: C-6 Bus, Taxi & Times
The C-6 bus runs all night and costs €4.70 now. Where to catch it, which stop to use, and when a taxi makes more sense.
The easy way from Alicante airport into the city centre is the C-6 bus. It runs 24 hours a day, leaves about every 12 minutes in the daytime, takes around 25 to 30 minutes and costs €4.70 since July 2026. A taxi costs around €25 to €35 and takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Quick facts
- Bus: line C-6, run by Vectalia. €4.70 single from 24 July 2026.
- Hours: 24/7. Daytime every 12 minutes, overnight every 30 minutes.
- Journey: about 25-30 minutes to Puerta del Mar.
- Taxi: around €25-35 to the centre, including a €4.25 airport supplement.
- Distance: about 12 km.
- No train, no tram at the airport (yet).
The C-6 bus, step by step
1. Find the stop
Arrivals is on the ground floor, but according to ALSA's airport page the bus bays at Alicante are on the upper level (planta 2, departures). Walk out of the departures doors and cross to the bays opposite check-in. Look for "C-6 Alicante". If the layout's changed, follow the bus signs.
2. Pay the driver
The single is €4.70. Vectalia raised it on 24 July 2026, and lots of guides still say €3.85. Other fares on the line include over-65s at €1.05 and a 10-trip bono at €8.10 with the current 40% discount. Concession fares come with conditions, so ask the driver or check Vectalia's fares notice. The C-6 has its own fare, so a normal city bus pass won't work on it. Have cash ready in case the card reader is down.
3. Know your stop
From the airport, the C-6 heads in via Agua Amarga, San Gabriel (Cercanías station) and Avenida de Elche, then stops at:
- Estación de Autobuses, the main bus station, for ALSA coaches.
- Puerta del Mar, by the Explanada and the port. Best for the old town (El Barrio and Santa Cruz), Postiguet beach and seafront hotels. It's also a tram stop for line 5.
Vectalia says people coming from the airport can stay on past Puerta del Mar all the way to the Renfe train station. On that last stretch the bus calls at MARQ-Castillo, Mercado (Alfonso X El Sabio) and Luceros. Aena lists Alfonso X El Sabio and Luceros as the places to change for the tram.
4. Timetable
From Vectalia's 2026 timetable, buses leave the airport every 12 minutes from about 07:16 to 22:35, then every 30 minutes from 23:10 to 04:40, then at 05:40, 06:04, 06:34 and 06:56. Into town from Puerta del Mar it's every 12 minutes from about 06:28 to 21:45, then every 30 minutes from 22:30 to 04:00, then 05:00, 05:20 and 05:50. Full details are on the C-6 page.
Going back to the airport
Catch the C-6 at Puerta del Mar (the first stop), Mercado or Luceros, or near the bus and train stations. Allow 30 to 40 minutes, and leave extra time in July and August when the buses fill up with suitcases. For a 6am flight, the 05:00 or 05:20 from Puerta del Mar is your friend.
Taxi from the airport to Alicante
The rank is right outside arrivals. Aena says the official airport taxis are Radio Taxi Elche and Servitaxi Elche, with a green stripe down the side and Elche's crest on the doors. There's a €4.25 airport supplement on top of the meter. Expect around €25 to €35 to central Alicante (Servitaxi Elx quotes €32 for a pre-booked car), and more at night, on Sundays and on holidays. With three people and bags, it's barely more than the bus.
Ignore anyone offering a ride inside the terminal. Licensed taxis don't tout.
Other ways in
- Pre-booked transfer: fixed price, driver in arrivals. For the city it costs about the same as a taxi, so it only makes sense for a late flight with kids or car seats.
- Hire car: desks on the ground floor. I wouldn't bother if you're staying in the centre. Parking is a pain and you can walk everywhere.
- Train or tram: neither reaches the airport. A rail link via a new Torrellano bypass is in the planning stage, with Adif tendering design work in autumn 2026, so don't expect it any time soon.
- Elche, Santa Pola, Benidorm, Torrevieja: other buses go there direct from the airport. See our airport to Benidorm and airport to Torrevieja guides, or the Elche day trip guide if you're heading there.
Heading to Playa de San Juan?
Take the C-6 to Luceros, then tram line 4 to Playa de San Juan, or line 1 or 3 for the Muchavista end. You'll need a separate tram ticket (€1.50 single in the city zone) because the C-6 isn't part of the integrated city system. With bags, a taxi straight there is less hassle. Our San Juan guide covers the area, and the Alicante tram guide explains the lines.
Once you're in town
Drop the bags and go and eat. Our Alicante centre guide, where to eat in Alicante and the Alicante nightlife guide will sort out the first night.
