Basic-Fit

This is the Basic-Fit on Calle Alcalalí, a big no-frills chain gym in the Rabasa retail park on the north side of Alicante. If you want a cheap monthly membership with plenty of kit and don't need a pool or spa, it does the job. There's over 1,200 square metres of floor: free weights, a strength zone, rows of cardio machines, and a functional and stretching area. Live group classes are included in every membership, with virtual classes and the Basic-Fit app's workouts on top. There are a few extras like massage chairs and a body composition scale. It opens early and closes late on weekdays, with shorter weekend hours, but the club's own pages have listed different times, so check before you go. Membership runs in four-week blocks across Comfort, Premium and Ultimate tiers. The higher ones let you train at Basic-Fit clubs around Europe and bring a guest, which is handy if you split your year between Spain and elsewhere. Free parking makes it an easy drive, too. Expect a chain gym feel: functional rather than cosy.
