Costa Blanca news, 14 August 2026: record July at Alicante airport

Alicante airport heads for a record year, Pedreguer plans two weeks of culture, and a charity art workshop opens in El Campello.

Here's your Costa Blanca catch-up for the middle of August. Three things worth knowing about this week: the airport is heading for a record, Pedreguer is going big on culture, and there's a new way to do something good with an afternoon in El Campello.

Alicante airport is on track for a record year

If the airport felt rammed when you flew in, you weren't imagining it. Alicante-Elche airport recorded an 11.1% jump in passenger numbers in July compared with the same month a year earlier. Airport operator Aena says more than 2.3 million people used the airport in July alone.

The Olive Press reckons annual passenger numbers are set to smash the record, and Spanien Press is calling a record year too. None of this will shock anyone who has queued for a coffee in departures in August.

If you're flying before the end of the month, get there earlier than you think you need to and sort your transfer ahead of time. The queues are real.

Two weeks of culture in Pedreguer

Away from the coast, the town of Pedreguer is putting on a two-week cultural conference with workshops, literature and live performances. The plan is a full fortnight of arts, literature and community heritage.

Events like this are why I keep telling people to get off the beach once in a while. The towns behind the coastline do culture their own way, and it usually costs a lot less than anything on the front line. Check the programme at the link above before you drive out.

Art for rescued animals in El Campello

This one's easy to like. A charity art workshop has opened in El Campello to support rescued animals. The idea is simple: people in the Alicante area who enjoy making things get to combine art with charity, and rescued animals get the benefit.

If you've been looking for a way to meet people here that isn't a bar or a beach club, something like this is exactly it. You make something, you chat to strangers, the animals win.
