Is WAO Coworking Alicante worth it? How it compares to the rest

If you've been working out of cafés in Alicante, you know the drill. Find a plug, order a second coffee you don't want, pack up when the lunch rush starts. At some point a proper desk starts to make sense, and WAO is the obvious place to start looking.

What you're actually getting at WAO

WAO Coworking Alicante sits on the first floor at Av. Maisonnave, 28 bis, right on the city's main shopping street. It holds a 5.0 rating on Google from 60 reviews. The crowd is a mix of digital nomads, local entrepreneurs and remote workers who want a professional setup.

The location is the headline. Maisonnave is where the city goes to shop, so lunch spots, banks and buses are all within a couple of minutes on foot, and it's easy to reach from most neighbourhoods. If your workday includes errands, this is the spot that lets you do them without touching a car.

The same location is also the catch. A first-floor space above the main shopping street is never going to feel calm and tucked away. In the run-up to Christmas and during the sales the street below is heaving, and in summer the heat and the crowds arrive together. If your ideal workspace is quiet and residential, this isn't that.

The competition

V11 Coworking is the closest rival, over on C/ Santiago in the old centre. Also a 5.0 on Google, from 27 reviews. The pitch is different though: private offices and virtual office services rather than one big shared floor, and people consistently mention how quiet it is. If you spend your day on calls, or you need a business address in Alicante, V11 is built for exactly that.

Genion Lab Coworking is the odd one out. It's in Petrer, a proper drive inland, so it's not really competing for anyone living in Alicante city. It has its own perfect score, 5.0 from 53 reviews, and it's known for not feeling like a sterile office. If you're based around Petrer or Elda, it's the local answer. If you're in the city, the commute kills it.

One thing worth clocking: all three have a 5.0 rating. Coworking reviews are mostly written by members who stuck around, so a perfect score really means "no red flags", not "best in class". Use it to shortlist, not to decide.

So, is WAO worth it?

For most people working remotely from Alicante city, yes. It's central, it's professional, and the reviews back that up. Pick WAO if you want a desk among other people in the middle of town.

Pick V11 if you need a door that closes and somewhere quiet for calls. Genion only enters the picture if you live inland.

What I'd push back on is signing up from your sofa. None of the numbers above tell you the things that actually decide whether a coworking works for you: the chairs, the screens, the aircon in August, whether there's somewhere to take a call. Ask for a trial day, go midweek when it's at normal capacity, and check those four things yourself.
