Restaurante Fondillón

Fondillón is the restaurant inside the Hospes Amérigo hotel on Calle Rafael Altamira in Alicante's old town, and it's a good bet for a polished Mediterranean meal right in the centre. It takes its name from Alicante's historic aged wine. Chef Javier Tortosa, from Villena, came home after working in France and Ireland, and cooks with a local, seasonal, zero-kilometre approach that backs regional farmers and fishermen. Expect fresh fish, seasonal vegetarian dishes and options for coeliacs, but the rices are what it's become known for. The Macarfi Guide 2025 named it among the best restaurants in the Valencian region, praising the cooking and the service. The hotel gives you a few ways to eat: the main restaurant, a tapas bar, the Bistró de Amérigo with a jazz brunch on Sundays, a terrace onto Calle Mayor and a rooftop with views over the city.
