Puntapiedra

Puntapiedra is a big seafront venue on Avenida de Villajoyosa, on the coast road just out of Alicante's centre, and it's part restaurant, part beach club. You go as much for the sea-facing terraces and the music as for the food. The kitchen cooks Mediterranean food over wood fire and embers, with a menu built for sharing. Rice is the highlight, like the wood-fired rice with Iberian pork pluma and the rice with carabineros, the big red prawns. Diners also mention the braised beef cheek, croquettes, cecina and carpaccio. The Coast Club side brings DJs, shows and cocktails, with themed parties through the summer and events into autumn, such as Halloween in its Palapa and Red Club spaces. Think of it as a sunset-and-music place with good rice rather than a quiet dinner spot, and it suits celebrations and groups. The summer terrace closes in the colder months.
