Racó del Pla

Racó del Pla is an old-school rice house on Calle Doctor Nieto in Alicante's Pla neighbourhood. It calls itself a temple of rice, and rice is exactly why you'd go. The dish to know is arroz con pata de ternera, rice with veal shank, which the restaurant counts among the most celebrated rices in Valencian cooking. Beyond rice there are home-style plates like fabes with clams and olleta alicantina, the local bean stew, plus fish, shellfish, meats and salads. There's a second branch in Condomina, and the related Taverna del Racó del Pla sits on Calle Navas nearer the centre. You can book online or by phone, order takeaway, and there are group menus if you're bringing a crowd. They've been running a special anniversary menu this autumn, so ask about it when you book.
