Restaurant Peix & Brases

Peix & Brases is one of Dénia's serious dinner bookings, a Michelin-starred restaurant on Plaça Benidorm looking over the marina, with the castle behind you. Its motto is that there's no avant-garde without tradition, and the cooking backs that up: modern Mediterranean plates built on fish and seafood from the Dénia fish market, with the open grill and savoury rices doing a lot of the work. There are two ways in. Downstairs is a more relaxed gastrobar; upstairs is the gastronomic dining room with two tasting menus, the Menú Origen at 99 euros or the longer Recorrido Gastronómico at 130 euros, both changing with the season. Recent diners rave about the wine pairings, and the cellar runs to more than 400 bottles. In the warmer months the Cielo terrace opens up. Reviewers mostly reckon it's fair value for the quality, though one or two with sky-high expectations found the odd dish didn't land. Book ahead through the website. There's a private room for around 25 if you're celebrating.
